August 2010 E-NEWSLETTER
“Summertime and the living is easy,
Greetings Readers and Fellow Authors:
“August rushes by like desert rainfall, a flood of frenzied upheaval, expected but still catching me unprepared. Like a match flame bursting on the scene – heat and haze of crimson sunsets. Like a dream of moon and dark barely recalled – a moment, shadows caught in a blink. Like a quick kiss; one wishes for more…but it suddenly turns to leave, dragging summer away.”
And while you’re enjoying what’s left of our summer months, be sure to share Flaherty’s Crossing
with friends, family and book clubs – now available at BN.com:
Okay…I recently received over fifty Irish jokes in light of a contest for free copies of Flaherty’s Crossing. The following winning entries may be inappropriate in some circles, but they definitely made me smile…
An Irish woman “of a certain age” visited her physician to ask his help in reviving her husband’s sex drive.
“What about trying Viagra?” asked the doctor.
“Not a chance,” she said. “He won’t even take an aspirin”.
“Not a problem,” replied the doctor. “Drop it into his coffee. He won’t even taste it. Give it a try and call me in a week to let me know how things went.”
Less than a week later, the woman rang up her doctor, who immediately inquired as to her husband’s progress. The poor dear exclaimed, “Oh, faith, bejaysus and begorrah! T’was horrid! Just terrible, Doctor.”
“Really? What happened?” he asked.
“Well, I did as you advised and slipped it in his coffee, and the effect was almost immediate. He jumped hisself straight up, with a twinkle in his eye, and with his pants a-bulging fiercely! With one swoop of his arm, he sent the cups and tablecloth flying, ripped me clothes to tatters and took me then and there, making wild, mad, passionate love to me on the tabletop! It was an absolute nightmare, I tell you!”
“Why so terrible?” asked the doctor. “Do you mean the sex was not good?”
“Oh, no, Doctor. The sex was great…terrific…marvelous!! Indeed, t’was the best sex I’ve had in 25 years.
Over the Counter Drugs
A lady walked into a pharmacy and spoke to the pharmacist. She asked, “Do you have Viagra?”
“Yes,” he answered.
She asked, “Does it work?”
“Yes,” he answered.
“Can you get it over the counter?” she asked.
“I can if I take two,” he answered.

Tasty Summer Treat: GreenTea Smoothie
Several hours before serving, drain the peaches, place fruit in a freezer container, and freeze. Brew tea bags in 1 cup water. Allow to steep five to ten minutes longer than called for; then remove tea bags, cool the liquid and chill well. To serve, combine the brewed tea, peach nectar, peaches and yogurt in blender or large food processor. Mix well and place in 4 chilled serving glasses. Serve right away and enjoy a refreshing treat!
